A FOUR-year-old boy has undergone emergency surgery after being involved in a car crash on Wednesday morning (September 30).
The child, who has not been named, was the only passenger in a Ford Ka which collided with a Citroen C3 on the busy A167 dual carriageway between Durham City and Chester-le-Street.
The boy, from Chester-le-Street, and the Ka driver, his grandmother, a 58-year-old woman also from Chester-le-Street, were rushed to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle with serious injuries.
Both remain in hospital but neither is thought to have sustained life-threatening injuries. The grandmother’s condition is described as stable.
The cars collided while both were travelling south near the Red Lion roundabout at Plawsworth at about 11.50am.
The Citroen driver was uninjured.
Durham Police are appealing for any witnesses to the crash to call its collision investigation unit via the non-emergency number, 101.
