A SPECIAL screening of more than a century of archive film footage of a North-East city is now sold out.

Friday’s (October 2) Sunderland on Film event features reflections from ex-foreign news correspondent Kate Adie on her return to her home city, and a full showing of the compilation of footage, from 1900 to the present day.

Created in partnership between the city council and the North-East Film Archive, the screening launches the Sunderland Literature Festival.

The film traces the social, economic and cultural history of Sunderland as it grew from a busy ship-building town in the late Victorian era, to become the city it is today.

Subject to further public demand and inquiries, the council is considering arranging for a second public screening, after all 250 tickets sold-out for the ‘premier’, at Sunderland Minster.

A short trailer of Sunderland on Film is available to view on the council’s YouTube page, www.sunderland.gov.uk/on-film, while the itinerary for the festival can be viewed via www.sunderland.gov.uk/literature-festival.
