AN unnamed punter has won £30,000 on a football bet after backing a string of outsiders to overturn the odds.
The online gambler from Durham put a £5 bet on five matches with bookmaker Coral.
During a weekend of surprise results, the bookmaker said most accumulator bets had lost, but the shrewd customer managed to correctly predict five upsets.
The customer, who only recently set up an account with Coral, selected Crystal Palace to beat Chelsea, West Ham to beat Liverpool, West Brom to beat Stoke, Leeds to beat Derby, and Cardiff to beat Nottingham Forest to pick up a £30,000 windfall.
Nicola McGeady, from Coral, said: “It was a weekend where we thought we'd escaped any big payouts, but our Durham punter made sure we didn't get out of jail with his incredible predictions.
"Whether it was down to luck or just pure genius, we take our hats off to him.”
The win comes just days after Durham barman Lewis Rider won £1m on a National Lottery scratchcard.
