A FESTIVAL of free entertainment has returned to the North-East over the Bank Holiday weekend.

The Durham Streets Summer Festival was in Durham City on Saturday and Sunday and moves to Barnard Castle on Monday August 31.

It features fire jugglers, unicyclists, comedians, daredevils, acrobats and more fun for all of the family to enjoy.

Top international performers include Adorkable Derek, whose heart-warming show is a funny combination of Chinese pole acrobatics, audience participation, nerdy dancing, clowning and striptease.

Andy Snatch combines comedy, juggling, fire and rope walking, while Mr Vita shows off juggling, feats of balance and award-winning hair.

Scar Top is the venue for the Barnard Castle event, which will also feature a circus school and all the events are free.

Councillor Neil Foster, Durham County Council’s cabinet member for economic regeneration and culture, said: “There is lots of wacky, weird and wonderful performances to enjoy during this year’s Streets festival but this year we’re also giving people the chance to have a go themselves by taking part in our circus school in Barnard Castle.

“Learn to juggle like Brucie, stand on your hands like the Head First Acrobats or clown around like Adorkable Derek and Herbie Treehead – you never know; you could discover a hidden talent.”
