A FORMER Durham Cathedral chorister is returning to his home city to sing with a new group.

Sylvan Rackham, who also attended Durham Johnston School, is now a member of Exeter University’s a capella outfit Semitoned.

The group will perform at St Oswald’s Church, Church Street, Durham City on Wednesday, August 5.

The 12-strong choir are currently the university champions of Voice Festival UK and will be appearing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August.

They have won praise for their musical wit and charisma, bagged a Bobby Award at last year’s Fringe and performed across the country and in the United States.

Mr Rackham said: “It’s a wonderful opportunity to sing in my home town again and to introduce my new friends from the south to our beautiful city.

“This will be the only performance of our new show before taking it to Edinburgh in a few days’ time.”

The show starts at 7pm. Tickets, priced £5, will be available at the door.
