WORK has begun on a new play area.

Cotsford Park, in Horden, will get new play equipment including wings, roundabouts, a climbing frame and a slide under a revamp costing more than £50,000.

A turf-cutting ceremony was held at the Horden Parish Council-owned park today (Wednesday, June 24).

The East Durham Area Action Partnership (AAP) helped to secure £48,000 from the Impetus Environmental Trust and local county councillors Paul Straddling and June Clark each contributed £3,000 from their Durham County Council neighbourhood budgets.

John Maudling, chairman of the Cotsford Park working group, said: “Many thanks to Impetus Trust, our local councillors and all other residents and members of our Cotsford Park working group – this project has brought the whole community together and will be greatly appreciated by local children and residents alike for many years.”

The ceremony was attended by representatives of the play area group, Horden Regeneration Partnership, Horden Parish Council, the AAP and Durham County Council.
