BANK workers and firefighters have collectively cycled the length of the country for charity.

Around 20 workers at Lloyds bank, in Durham, were joined by a team from County Durham Fire and Rescue Service to pedal 838 miles, the distance from John O’Groats to Land’s End, in aid of the Heel and Toe children’s charity and Breast Cancer clinical trials.

The effort took place on exercise bikes in the bank branch, off Durham Market Place. It started on Monday (February 23) and manager Nick Dobson saw the team across the finishing line today (Friday), covering the final 40km solo.

The stunt has already raised £740 for the causes from public donations and Lloyds has agreed to match the final total.

Organiser Lesley Feechan, a mortgage adviser, said: “It’s been fantastic.

“The support from customers has been fantastic and it’s brought all the staff together.

“It’s been an amazing experience. I can’t believe we’ve done it.”
