CHRISTMAS jumpers were worn with pride at a charity golf tournament aimed at raising funds for sick and underprivileged children.

Sixty golfers took part in the competition at Ramside Hall Hotel near Durham City, raising just under £2,500 for the Ellen Timney Foundation.

Rob Hardy, vice chairman of the charity’s trustees, said: “It was a wonderful day –a fantastic time was had by all. There was certainly a good turnout of Christmas jumpers. On behalf of the Ellen Timney Foundation, I would like to thank everyone involved for their support.”

Based in Sedgefield, the charity was launched in 2007 in memory of Ellen Timney, a kind-hearted resident who championed many community causes before her death of cancer in 2007.

Every year, the charity raises thousands of pounds to fund specialist equipment, toys and respite holidays for poorly children and their families across the North-East.

It also runs a Christmas Toy Appeal, which provided gifts for 400 under privileged children this year.
