SUNDERLAND fans raised more than £14,000 for the club’s official charity at the weekend.

Saturday’s (October 25) home match against Arsenal was chosen as this season’s Foundation Matchday, with the aim of raising money for the Foundation of Light.

Gus Poyet’s players warmed up in Foundation of Light T-shirts and wore special match shirts bearing the charity’s logo.

These were auctioned after the game, raising more than £14,000 for the cause.

Children who are part of the Foundation’s football programmes showed off their skills on the pitch at half-time.

Phil King, the Foundation of Light’s head of commercial, said: “The Foundation Matchday is a great opportunity for us to show the fans and the broader community what we do and how they can get involved.

“The day was a huge success and we’d like to thank all those who helped make it possible.”

The Foundation delivers more than £3m-worth of community work every year, reaching 42,000 people.

Its annual Fashion Strikes fashion show will be held at the Stadium of Light on Monday, November 24. Tickets are £1,000 for a table of ten.
