A BRAVE young footballer is giving away one of her prized possessions to help find a cure for the disease she has suffered since she was a toddler.

Drew Turner, from Durham, was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis when she was 18 months old, a week after her older sister Neve discovered she too had the incurable disease.

Now the 11-year-old is donating a pair of signed boots given to her by England star Jill Scott to raise money for the cause.

The boots will be auctioned off at the Diamond Rose Ball, to be held at the Radisson Blu Hotel, in Durham on Saturday night.

Despite the impact on cystic fibrosis on her lungs, talented footballer Drew spent two years at Sunderland Centre of Excellence and now plays for Boro Rangers girls Under 11s in the Teesside Junior Alliance.

The youngster, from Newton Hall, met Jill Scott during a coaching course in Durham and the Manchester City midfielder, who has won 75 caps for England and represented Great Britain at the Olympics, gave her a pair of signed boots.

Drew’s mother, Phillippa Turner, said: "We have made sure the girls are always active and in fact gone the opposite way to make sure it is physical and demanding.

"Drew has always loved football from the moment she first kicked a ball and she’s very fast, energetic and always involved.

"When Jill found out she had CF she couldn’t believe it and she said Drew is an inspiration because she just gets on with it and never complains."

Drew has only missed four games since she started playing regularly five years ago and only when doctors told her not to take part in any contact sport while she was having intravenous treatment.
