GUN-toting robbers injured a member of staff in a daylight raid on a North-East social club.

Officers were called to Tynemouth and District Social Club on Front Street in Tynemouth at 9.15am on Sunday, October 19.

"Police attended and found two men had entered the club via the rear of the premises one is believed to have been armed with a handgun," said a spokeswoman for Northumbria Police. "They demanded cash and a member of staff was pushed against the door, causing an injury to his arm. The offenders left with an undisclosed amount of cash. Staff were shocked by the incident one member of staff was taken to hospital as a precaution.

"The offenders left through the back door."

The first man is described as white, stocky build, aged approximately late 30s, 5ft 10ins tall wearing a black hoodie with a scarf across his face, jeans, trainers and gloves. The second man, armed with a handgun, is aged approximately mid 30s, slim build, 5ft 6ins to 8ins tall, with what is described as a 'bony' face, wearing a grey hoodie and a dark scarf to his face.

Police are appealing for witnesses anyone who was in the area and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious is asked to contact them. Officers are on patrol in the area carrying out door to door enquiries with local businesses and residents.
