FORMER Sunderland captain Kevin Ball has opened new football facilities today (Friday, October 17).
The defender-come-midfielder, who made more than 300 appearances for the club, has twice been caretaker manager and is now senior professional development coach, cut the ribbon on a £646,000 third generation “3G” artificial pitch at Castleview Enterprise Academy, in Castletown, Sunderland.
The Foundation of Light, the club’s registered charity, will use the pitch for its coaching and other sport inclusion programmes and there will also be independent children’s leagues.
The project benefitted from a £346,236 grant from the Premier League and the FA Facilities Fund, which aims to improve links between clubs and communities, secured with help from the Durham FA.
