A CHARITY football match between superheroes and Disney princesses raised more than £4,500.

The lads dressed as ladies came out on top, with two goals from Minnie Mouse and Tinkerbell beating the Heroes side 2-1.

A converted penalty from Super Mario meant it was not a total humiliation for the losing team.

The game was staged at Battle Green Field, between Pelton and Pelton Fell, near Chester le Street, County Durham, on Saturday.

It was organised by Paul Bainbridge and Tracey Harrison to raise money for the Sarah’s Hope Foundation, which sends sick children on holiday.

Princesses team boss Paul Jobes, a 47-year-old factory plant manager, from Langley Park, said: “It was quite a sight. Not the sort of thing you see in Pelton all of the time.

“We just went out there and wanted to win. It was competitive but good humoured.”

It was followed by a charity auction night at Pelton Crown with entertainment from singer Wes Hood.

Mr Jobes said: “We set out to raise as much money as we could and are very pleased with the amount raised. People were very generous. It was a cracking night. I think there will have been a few hangovers this morning.”
