DURHAM University student fundraisers have been voted the best in the country.

The group category in the annual National Student Fundraising Awards was given to Durham University Charities Kommittee (DUCK).

In the 2013/14 academic year DUCK raised and donated more than

£200,000 to local, national and international charities and students spent countless hours volunteering.

Incoming DUCK chairman Jordan Riley said: “I’m absolutely delighted that DUCK were recognised at this year’s National Student Fundraising Awards.

“We have worked hard over the last 12 months to make DUCK even better.

“Last year we introduced the DUCK strategy, to ensure we have a clear direction, to help with long term sustainability, whilst still continuing on with the fantastic work we have always done to raise money for various charitable causes.

“What a fantastic way to start my year in office. I’m really excited to take over the reins and to continue the good work that DUCK has done for so many years.

“Alongside raising money for charity, our participants give up many hours of their time to organise our various fundraising events and activities, as well as to volunteer.”

DUCK was established in the 1960s and is run exclusively by students supported byStudent Union staff.

The organisation holds various events throughout the year including a jail break challenge.
