AN original poster for the James Bond movie Goldfinger is expected to make up to £3,000 when it comes up for auction later this month.

Projectionist Peter Douglas built up a collection of movie memorabilia during his time at the Classic Cinema, in Low Fell, Gateshead and now plans to sell off 30 of his posters.

As well as the Goldfinger piece from 1964, there are posters for two other Bond films - For Your Eyes Only and Octopussy - as well as ET and Jaws.

They will all go under the hammer at the Anderson and Garland auction house in Newcastle between March 25 and 27.

Mr Douglas, who now works as a manager at The Forum cinema in Hexham, said: "They mainly came from the Classic in Low Fell where I used to work when I first left school, and from the ABC Haymarket in Newcastle, where a friend of a friend was the manager.

"I displayed some of them when I was younger in a 1930s quad frame and changed them once a week, but they have been in the cupboard for 20 or 30 years."

He has also put his collection of 1970s railway posters into the auction, collected as a child from a family friend who worked as a signalman at Newcastle Central Station.

Although he is keeping a few film posters for sentimental reasons, Mr Douglas is selling the majority to help pay refurbishments after moving house.

He said: "Bond posters are quite collectable so hopefully they will be of interest."
