A CHARITY endurance challenge using gym equipment has been carried out to raise money for sick children in the North-East.

Fundraiser Ivan Hollingsworth was joined by Rugby Union player Tom May and television presenter Ben Shephard after they pledged to train continuously until they have burned 10,000 calories each for charity.

The challenge was carried out today (Monday, January13) at the Speedflex gym in Jesmond, Newcastle, in aid of the Children’s Heart Unit at the Freeman Hospital.

Mr Hollingworth, from Whitley Bay, whose son Sebastian, had open heart surgery five years ago and has made a full recovery, said: “Any pain we will endure during this time is insignificant compared to what heart children deal with every single day.

“If you think our pain, sweat and tears warrant a small donation we will be eternally thankful.”

The challenge started at 7am this morning and took around 12 hours with each man taking on sessions of 45 minutes.
