A BUTCHER with 40 year’s experience of his trade has scooped 12 awards in his first ever contest.
Ian Barnes has worked as a butcher since the 1960s and runs Stokesley Butchers in Stokesley and Great Ayton.
But this year was the first time he had decided to enter a competition with his homemade products. He submitted 13 different pies, sausages and home-cured bacons at the recent BPEX roadshow at the Great Yorkshire Showground in Harrogate and was amazed to walk away with 12 awards; three gold, seven silver and two bronze.
Mr Barnes said: “I’ve been here for years, but this is the first time we’ve ever entered a competition. But my customers kept telling me I should.
“My staff here were all part of it. It’s just great to get something like this.”
