Volunteer cyclists needed

TWO schemes that promote cycling for health are looking for keen bikers to sign up as volunteer guides.

The Richmondshire and Hambleton Cycling for Health projects are looking for leaders to take groups out from Richmond and Northallerton.

The schemes are designed to help people returning to exercise or wanting to use cycling as a way of improving their health and the initiative has already seen successful groups set up in Thirsk and Hawes.

Full training is given before the 12 weekly sessions which each last around an hour. The training takes place on March 2.

Richmondshire and Hambleton active for life officer Lesley Williams said: "We are looking for confident cyclists who can become volunteer leaders for this successful scheme.

"They would be helping people increase their activity levels and improve their fitness in an enjoyable activity.

"A volunteer simply needs to enjoy meeting new people and passing on cycling skills to those feeling nervous on a bike."

For more information on the scheme – as a volunteer guide or to join as a rider – contact Lesley on 01609 767242 or email lesley.williams@hambleton.gov.uk
