Water tower to go under hammer

A LANDMARK that has dominated its surroundings for more than 50 years could be set to disappear from the skyline, after it was put up for auction by its owner.
The disused 50ft water tower, in Lovesome Hill, near Northallerton, North Yorkshire, is being offered for sale by Yorkshire Water.
A guide price for £5,000 to £10,000 has been set for the tower, which can be seen from the East Coast Main Line, which passes close by.
Built in 1955, the tower has not been used by Yorkshire Water since 1992, but has served as a makeshift mobile phone mast in the meantime.
It will go under the hammer at a property auction, in Leeds, on February 18.
Tony Webber, of auctioneers Eddisons, said: “This is a highly unusual lot.
“Despite certain restrictions regarding its future use, imaginative buyers may see development potential.”
The sale is taking place at Elland Road stadium, home of Leeds United Football Club, at noon on February 18.
