Festive backing given to charity appeal

STAFF donned Santa hats to help promote a market town building society’s festive appeal to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation.

The Yorkshire Building Society, on Northallerton High Street, is raising funds for the good cause with its Heart to Heart appeal.

Workers at the branch wore red yesterday (nov 27) to promote the fundraising which will help support the charity’s Heart HelpLine.

This is a dedicated phone service run by cardiac nurses and heart health advisors who deal with calls from the public.

Paula McGee, branch manager, said: "Heart and circulatory disease is the UK’s biggest killer and no-one should face the prospect of losing a loved one before their time.

"Each year, around 200,000 people die from the disease and those who survive can find living with heart and circulatory disease difficult, and at times frightening.

"I hope our existing customers and the general public will have a heart and get behind the appeal – together we can make a difference to the lives of people with heart disease this Christmas."

To help boost the donations to the appeal the building society will stock limited edition cuddly Christmas tree decorations and reindeer food until New Year’s Eve.
