A SCHOOL'S trophy cabinet may need to be extended after a successful term for its sporting teams and musicians.

Lanchester Endowed Parochial School, in northwest Durham, has enjoyed an unprecedented winning run on the sports field.

It was balanced by the achievements of singers and instrumentalists at a music festival.

Among the silverware won by Lanchester EP footballers were the Derwentside Indoor Winter League and the Eddie Embleton Trophy, both lifted by the boys' year five and six team.

Not to be outdone, the girls' years five and six team won the Derwentside Schools' league championship.

The school's swimmers won the overall title at the Derwentside Schools' Gala, at the Louisa Centre, in Stanley, in April.

The Lanchester EP crosscountry teams, male and female, lifted their respective district schools' league trophies.

Meanwhile, members of the school's junior choir hit the high note at last month's Consett Musical Festival, winning three of four singing classes.

The bells were also ringing for Lanchester EP's newly-formed Bell Plates group, which won its first award, taking the festival's instrumental class with a distinction. Bell Plates is a child-friendly version of hand bells.

The school's trophy winners will be highlighted at the end-of-term leavers' service.

Proud headteacher Jane Davis said: "This is my third year at the school, and certainly it's been the most successful. I think we will have to have a larger trophy cabinet to fit in all the various shields and cups."
