YOUNGSTERS will enjoy new sports equipment after a school benefited from a competition to guess the number of medals Great Britain won at London 2012.
The Olympic-themed competition was run by North East recruitment firm Temp-Team.
Workers at local businesses had to guess the Team GB medal haul and the winner shared the prize with a local school which they nominated.
Carole Chadwick, business support officer at Multi-Service Fabrications Limited (MSFL), Newton Aycliffe, won.
She picked up £100 which she then split with half going to Harrowgate Hill Primary School, in Darlington, to buy sports equipment.
Carole Chadwick from MSFL said: “The contribution to sports equipment for a school of our choice was a wonderful idea.
“We’re pleased to help contribute towards sports equipment as sport should play an important part in youngster’s education and free time.”
Gemma Sanderson, a teacher at the school, said: “We’re excited at using this donation to increase our range of playground sports resources.
“We feel that these resources will encourage our pupils to be active and further develop their teamwork skills, whilst having fun and enjoying themselves.”
Emma Crocher, branch manager at Temp-Team Newton Aycliffe, said: “Since London 2012 children are more motivated to give sports a real go.
“A competition where companies can give schools money towards sports equipment, gives schools a helping hand to continue the positive impact the Olympics had on the children.”
