Fraudster caught again

A BENEFITS cheat who claimed £30,000 by pretending she was a single woman is facing a possible prison sentence.

Janet Fawcett admitted five charges of giving false information and failing to notify of changes in her circumstances.

She collected housing benefit, council tax relief and Income Support for seven years while living with her partner.

Fawcett, of Rainsford Crescent, Middlesbrough, had her case adjourned at Teesside Crown Court, until next month. She will be sentenced after background reports by the Probation Service.

The court heard that the 57- year-old received a conditional discharge when she was prosecuted in 1995 for benefit fraud.
