DISABLED drivers have been getting tips on how to cope with the potential danger of a car breakdown.
Middlesbrough Council's Safe and Active Travel Team and Middlesbrough's Shopmobility Service have teamed up to raise awareness of the issue with simple tips. They are using a Highways Agency magazine, which has an emergency card to keep in a vehicle's glove box. It is packed with safety tips and journey planning advice.
Councillor Nicky Walker, the council's executive member for transport, said: "Finding yourself broken down, crashed or with a flat tyre on a major road can be a daunting prospect, but for people with a disability it can be especially difficult.
Hopefully, drivers with disabilities will find this information useful. It will help them travel safely and with the confidence to deal with any situation."
