TEENAGERS who want to improve their town for future generations are taking their first steps into politics.
Alexander Fishlock, 15, Ben Rowden, 14, and Ryan Housbey, 16, are competing to represent young people as Middlesbrough's next Member of the UK Youth Parliament.
They will meet MPs and local councillors, run campaigns, make speeches and hold debates ahead of the election on February 23.
Alexander, a student at the Macmillan Academy, Middlesbrough, is striving to allow youngsters to express their views, get young people involved in events through school and offer opportunities to every young person.
Ben, from the King's Academy, Coulby Newham, is campaigning against negative stereotypes of young people, fighting for more facilities for young people, and working with local businesses to support more apprenticeships and jobs.
Ryan, a student at Acklam Grange, Middlesbrough, is determined to find young people "somewhere to go and something to do", show them a positive light and bring young people and the community together.
Polling stations will be installed in schools and youth centres.
