A YOUNG entrepreneur from North Yorkshire is heading to Sri Lanka to put his business skills to the test in an Apprentice-style TV show.
Pete Southern, 20, from Stokesley, will be taking part in Ideators, a programme organised by the British Council.
He will take part along with five other students from the UK together with six business students from Sri Lanka, and the show will be screened on Sri Lankan television from November.
Although they will work together, there will only be one winner by the end of the series, chosen by a judging panel headed by a highly-regarded Sri Lankan tycoon. The winner will receive further business training either in a UK university or a Sri Lankan firm, depending on their nationality.
Pete, who attended Stokesley School but now studies Engineering at Durham University, recently combined his engineering skills with his business acumen by buying and restoring an old Land Rover and turning it in to a mobile coffee bar. He has now set up his own company and serves top-quality fresh coffee at local events.
"I’m very excited about this opportunity," he said.
"I have no idea what to expect, but I intend to get everything I possibly can out of it. I'm sure it will be a fun, challenging and invaluable experience."
The British Council is the UK's international cultural relations organisation, working to build relationships and understanding between people in the UK and other countries and increase appreciation of the UK's ideas and achievements overseas.
