Children sing up for charity in cathedral concert

9:24am Saturday 6th February 2010

MORE than 300 schoolchildren from across the North-East have taken part in a cathedral concert.

Ten independent schools, including students from Red House School, in Norton, Stockton, Hurworth School, Darlington and Teesside High School, Eaglescliffe, near Stockton took part in the event at Durham Cathedral yesterday, in aid of Teesside Cancer Trust.

The youngsters, led by composer Will Todd, performed to more than 900 people. It is believed to be the biggest choir ever to appear in the cathedral.

A new Teenage Cancer Trust unit will open to young patients at The Great North Children’s Hospital, in Newcastle, later this month.

It will provide care for 13 to 18-year-olds with cancer from across the region.
