THE RSPCA is hunting the owner of a bull terrier-type dog found wandering the streets covered in wounds caused by dog fighting.
The emaciated female had severe wounds to her mouth and muzzle, which had become infected, as well as considerable scarring around her head, ears and throat.
She was picked up by a member of the public in Eastcroft Road, Middlesbrough, on Thursday, January 21.
RSPCA inspector Nick Jones said: “This dog was in a terrible state. The injuries she sustained were dreadful and no doubt causing her considerable suffering.
“I am very concerned that this dog has been used for fighting. I believe she has been fought and, probably because she lost the fight, turfed out to fend for herself.
“What this dog has been through does not bear thinking about.”
The dog, which has a white blaze along her neck and chest, has been treated by a vet and is in the care of the charity.
