Buildings must be compeleted to comply with planning permission

AN animal sanctuary has appealed for help in raising more than £400,000 to secure its uncertain future.

When planning permission was granted for Kayshill Animal Sanctuary, in West Auckland, County Durham, in November 2008, it was on condition that construction work was completed within two years.

But Kevin Plummer, who runs the development at Stone House Chapel, in Bildershaw, says the sanctuary has fallen victim to the credit crunch, and so far only an access road, car park, and part of a cattery have been built.

In the short term, the sanctuary needs £6,000 to install a roof on the new cattery.

Mr Plummer, who has lived on the 15-acre site at Stone House Chapel for three years, hopes to construct a block of stables, two aviaries, reception area with training facilities, a wash room, and a building for small animals.

There are about 300 animals at the sanctuary, ranging from domestic pets to rodents, horses, and wildlife, which all live in buildings earmarked for demolition.

Mr Plummer said donations of any kind would be appreciated, from money to building materials for the project.

To help, call Mr Plummer on 01388-834996 or visit kayshill-sanctuary.com The sanctuary is open each day between 1pm and 4pm.
