NURSING chief Tricia Hart has been made a visiting professor at Teesside University.
Ms Hart, deputy chief executive and director of nursing and patient safety at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: "I feel privileged to have been a member of the nursing profession for 38 years and am absolutely delighted by what this title means for nursing in south Tees.
"The caring component of nursing includes much more than a combination of the scientific and technical - it is a balance of the head, the heart, the hands, or the science, the skill and the spirit.
"Nurses have before them a unique opportunity today and for the future, if nursing does not waver from what it has always known to be true - compassionate, humane care born out of deep reflection and the desire to make a difference when a person is at their most vulnerable."
