A RETAIL giant has revealed the three local causes chosen for a charity scheme.

The Asda Living store at the Arnison Centre, in Durham City, launched its Chosen By You scheme on Monday.

Three good causes were named as the first beneficiaries of the scheme: Framwellgate Moor-based children’s charity Heel and Toe; four-year-old Thomas Brennan, from Ushaw Moor, who needs surgery in the United States; and Newton Hall Infants’ School.

Adam Foster, who has been appointed the store’s Community Life champion, said: "Chosen by You enables our customers to nominate and then vote for which local charity they would like to support.

"Every time a customer makes a transaction at the checkout they are given a green token to vote at the community board at the front of our store for the charity of their choice.

"At the end of the voting process the first placed charity will receive £100 and the second and third placed charities £25 each from the Asda Foundation."
