TWENTY charities and good causes are getting a cash boost from the annual bonfire at police headquarters.
They are sharing almost £9,000 raised by November’s firework spectacular at the Durham force complex at Aykley Heads, Durham City..
The event, one of the region’s largest, has been held for the last 30 years by Durham Constabulary and the County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service.
The cheques were presented by Bryan Russell, executive manager of the Durham Agency Against Crime, one of the bonfire’s organisers, at fire brigade headquarters.
The recipients include Brandon United FC who will improve facilities and access for young and disabled people.
Bishop Auckland Cycling Club are trying to recruit and retain more young members.
Durham Heritage Centre and Museum plans to restore two stained glass windows that date from 1822 and used to be on display in Brancepeth Castle Among the other recipients were: The Durham branch of Guide Dogs for the Blind, Teesdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue Team; The Percy Hedley Foundation, which provides specialised services for children and adults with cerebral palsy, sensory and complex learning needs; The Fire Fighters Charity and the Surgical Oncology Fund at the University Hospital of North Durham.
