A VILLAGE church will hold its annual Musical Celebration of Christmas concert this weekend.

Ushaw Moor Baptist Church, in Ushaw Moor, near Durham, will host Pittington Brass Band on Saturday, December 11, at 7pm.

The band featured on the BBC’s Christmas Songs of Praise at Beamish Museum with pop supremo Pete Waterman a few years ago and is well known for its concerts, charity events and annual appearance at Durham Miners’ Gala.

The church, which recently celebrated its 113th anniversary, has welcomed back the band for several years.

As there is no official village carol service in Ushaw Moor this year and the Christmas lights switch-on took place on Friday, concert organisers are hoping many will come and fill the church for the evening.

Admission is free. Donations will go to St Cuthbert’s Hospice, in Durham.

The church will hold services at 10.30am on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
