Blind newlyweds hope to inspire others

NEW bride Mel Scott was delighted with the colour scheme at her wedding reception at the weekend – even though she and her husband, Trev, could not see it.

Mel, who lost her sight when she was 21, designed and planned every detail of their wedding reception at Trimdon Station Community Centre, in their home village, on Saturday.

Mrs Scott, 40, who has two children from a previous relationship, said: “I chose the co-ordinated pink and ivory colour scheme for the balloons, tablecloths and streamers. From what I was told and from what I could visualise, it was really beautiful.”

Mr Scott, 52, who was blinded after a childhood accident, met his wife through a website for people with visual problems – a true “blind date” website.

The couple said they hope their story will inspire other blind people to lead a full life.

Mr Scott, an accomplished piano player and former piano tuner, performed at the reception, dedicating one tune – The Greatest Love Of All – to his new bride.

The best man was local shop owner Dennis Jordan.

Hardwick Hall Hotel, in Sedgefield, offered the couple the use of a suite after the wedding.
