MORE than 50 students enquired about a career in the Royal Navy during a recruitment event held last week.
The navy hopes to recruit 270 officers this year and attended Durham University’s Science, Engineering and IT fair, which was held on Wednesday and attracted more than 3,000 students.
Visitors were shown a replica of a ship’s gas turbine engine, manned by Marine Engineer Officer Lieutenant Paul Reeves, and were challenged to take part in a ‘efficiency simulation’, seeing who could get the best efficiency rating by making their own fan template to insert into the model.
Computer science undergraduate, Andrew Richards said: "The interactive element of the stand was intriguing and the opportunity to talk to Lieutenant Paul Reeves was a novelty at these kinds of events."
Software engineering student Joe Skerratt added: "I had never considered a career in the Navy, but the wide range of opportunities and challenges sound perfect to me."
Captain Davis-Marks, Captain Naval Recruiting says, "We are currently looking for technically minded graduates and non graduates who have a keen interest in being part of the Royal Navy and feel that they need a new challenge."
