Man arrested over Durham bomb hoax

POLICE investigating a bomb hoax have made an arrest.
Durham Police arrested a man late yesterday afternoon, after a suspicious bag was spotted outside the back of Cotswold Outdoor shop, in Silver Street, Durham.
At the time, several shops were evacuated and a 100m cordon imposed.
Police, firefighters and a bomb disposal squad were scrambled to the scene.
The bag contained a pop bottle made to look like a petrol bomb and had a fuse running from the outside.
After examining the device, explosives experts found it to be a hoax.
The man in custody was being questioned this morning.
