A DAD known as ‘Father Fitness’ is to stage a unique Twelve Days of Christmas fundraiser in aid of a children’s charity.
Paul Stainthorpe, a father-of-two from Durham City, will run to locations relevant to the gifts given on each day of the much-loved Christmas song to raise money for the Percy Hedley Foundation, which works with disabled children.
On Boxing Day, the second day of Christmas – when two turtle doves were sent, he will visit the Dove Hut at Broom House Farm, in Witton Gilbert.
On the 12th day of Christmas – when 12 drummers were sent, he will run home from Drum Industrial Estate, in Chester-le-Street.
Over 12 days, Mr Stainthorpe will clock up a total of 60 miles.
He said: “I’ve been thinking about this latest challenge for some time now. I knew about Percy Hedley and the wonderful work they do as a friend of mine works there.
“As 2013 is the foundation’s 60th anniversary, I wanted to devise a quirky challenge that involved me running 60 miles.”
To avoid interrupting his family Christmas Day, Mr Stainthorpe will begin his first challenge at 11.30pm on Christmas Eve.
