YOUNG musicians attended workshops to learn their art from military professionals.
St Aidan’s Church of England Academy, in Darlington, hosted the Heavy Cavalry and the Cambrai Band, based in Catterick, North Yorkshire, for a day.
Band members staged a workshop for more than 30 young musicians from schools and colleges around Darlington and County Durham.
Durham Music Service and the North-East branch of the International Military Music Society helped to stage the event.
Ian Robinson, the deputy head of Durham Music Service, said: “All the students taking part were able and talented musicians, working in brass, woodwind or percussion.
“We felt that they would benefit from the opportunity to play with professional musicians and see what it is like to be part of an ensemble like that.”
Bandmaster Ian Mitchell said: “Events like this really do give the young musicians a buzz. They take away so much from working with us.”
