Catering student plans an Uncle Sam menu
A CATERING student's dreams of opening a restaurant in the United States have taken a step closer.
Sam Ainsley moved towards her dream when she ran an American-themed restaurant for an evening.
The 17-year-old from South Cowton, North Yorkshire, was made head chef of Darlington College's Central Point restaurant for one evening.
Sam is an NVQ catering student at the college. She wants to eventually open her own restaurant in the United States, with one option in New York.
Her menu included ceviche, which is a citrus-based seafood salad, chowder and maple roasted chicken supreme.
She was in charge of a staff of nine for the evening.
Sam said: "I didn't have time to fly to America so used the internet for inspiration.
"Head chefing can be a bit stressful but the trick is to stay calm, brief your staff and enjoy yourself. It seemed to go really well and I can't wait to go to America for real."
