Bus route on the agenda
BUS passengers will decide on the future of their village bus service at a special open meeting on Wednesday night.
Two bus services from Darlington to Sadberge were due to be cut as part of Darlington Borough Council budget savings earlier this year.
But the service was saved following a campaign in Sadberge, by the parish councillors and residents, and support from borough councillor Brian Jones, whose ward covers other areas using the buses.
There were two previous subsidised services running from Darlington to Sadberge and other villages to the north-east of the borough.
Darlington Borough Council paid 132,000 to support the buses, which ran during the day from Monday to Friday.
As part of the councils budget consultation, it agreed instead to pay 80,000 towards the future of the service.
Residents and bus users will be able to discuss future timetabling options for the route.
The current contract runs until June 2008, from which point on it is expected the agreed changes will be put into place.
They could include changing the places served by the buses, changing the regularity of the buses and remove one of the two services.
The meeting will take place in Sadberge Village Hall tomorrow at 6pm.
