A PRIMARY school in Darlington has played host to teachers and school leaders from four different countries.
The guests from Germany, Poland, Turkey and Tuscany and Sicily in Italy visited Heathfield Primary School as part of the Comenius programme.
The programme, funded by the European Union via The British Council, provides opportunities for schools and colleges to introduce or strengthen the European dimension in their curriculum.
The project aims to develop knowledge and understanding among young people and education staff of the diversity of European cultures and languages.
The european visitors took part in a range of activities including visits to Durham, York and Whitby. They also visited the mayor’s parlour where they met mayor Coun Lee Vasey along with members of Heathfield’s school council.
Heathfield head teacher, Nick Blackburn said: “This project has been a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to learn about and experience other European cultures.
“We feel that it is more important than ever for our pupils to have a greater understanding and appreciation of our European community.”

Im only asking because the kids are off this week.
Would be difficult the pupils gaining a greater understanding and appreciation whilst they are not there.
