FOUR boys from Darlington are celebrating being called up to the County Durham U15 rugby squad.
The Hummersknott Academy pupils, who play for their school team and Mowden RUFC, have not been beaten in all matches they have played.
They will take part in regular squad training sessions with the hope of being picked for the team, who will play their first match against North and Central Yorkshire in the coming weeks.
The boys all play different positions – Joe Craggs plays at no.7, Sam Lorimer no. 8, Matthew Johnstone is a winger and Elliot Wanless is outside centre.
Joe and Elliott said they were both surprised and delighted to be picked for the squad and were looking forward to the opportunity to play more games.
Elliott said: “I wish that more schools in the town would play rugby, so that we could have more games with the school team.”
Stewart Souter, head of PE said: “It is a superb achievement for the boys and they are a true credit to the school.
“They work hard to develop their skills and are very committed to rugby. Particular mention should be made of Matthew Johnstone who has been playing rugby for a relatively short time.”
