Central Park masterplan consultation to end this month

INITIAL consultation about a new masterplan for the regeneration of a brownfield site in the centre of Darlington is coming to a close.

Central Park, a 30-hectare site between Haughton Road, Yarm Road, Hundens Lane and the railway, has been selected as a regeneration flagship project for the Tees Valley and will be developed over the coming years.

Darlington Borough Council and the Homes and Commuunity Agency (HCA) are working with developer consortium CKY to create a mixed use development of residential and business facilities, which it is hoped will create jobs and boost the local economy.

Consultation on the initial masterplan for the site ends on February 20 to allow the plans to go before the council’s cabinet in April.

Once the masterplan has been finalised and endorsed by the cabinet and the HCA exectutive, work will begin on gaining planning consent for the development.

An outline planning application and a detailed phase one are anticipated later this year.

Full information on the masterplan is available at darlington.gov.uk/centralpark or call Jill Thwaite on 01325-388269.

Comments can be made in writing to Jill Thwaite, projects and programmes – place; Darlington Borough Council, Town Hall, Darlington, DL1 5QT.

There will be a further opportunity to make comments at the pre-application stage, as well as statutory consultation on the planning application itself.

We don't need another park! The money is better spent in improving the others and attracting some proper leisure facilities which are totally lacking in Darlington. Do the council realise how many travel to stockton, Newcastle and even Aycliffe due to a total lack of things for families to do in Darlington!?
