Study into transport

A STUDY into the borough's public transport needs is be conducted, but the council will be unable to do anything with the results.

The news of the study, funded by money from the Department of Transport, comes as residents across Darlington fight to keep their subsidised buses, all of which are proposed to be cut this month.

The study will ask residents how often they use buses, if they have a car, and where they need to get a bus to.

However, there is no extra funding to implement the findings.

The results of the study are expected in April.

Why should bus companies like arriva be getting subsidies anyway. As a transport company they make vast profits anyway. The subsidy is only a bonus that will go into the pockets of CE'S.If they don't want to run buses on poor routes then they shouldn't be allowed to run buses on the lucrative routes.Sounds a bit like national express who handed the east coast mainline but who were quite prepared to keep more profitable routes down south.
