SEVEN new buses are due to come into service in Darlington next month.

Arriva will give customers the chance to look inside the new buses next Tuesday in the Market Square, from 11am to 2pm, and the Asda car park, Whinbush Way, on Thursday, August 4, from 11am to 2pm.

Staff from Arriva and Darlington Borough Council's sustainable transport team will be available at both sessions to answer queries.

The buses adhere to the latest European emissions standards with Euro 5 engines making them cleaner and greener. Each bus also has easy access for wheelchairs, buggies and passengers with mobility issues.

They will be used on service 9 - the Springfield Spinner operating from the town centre to Springfield via Haughton Road - and service 10 - the Whinfield Whizzer, running from the town centre to Whinfield.

Councillor David Lyonette, cabinet member for transport, said: "The new buses underline the positive partnership we are developing with Arriva to improve bus services across the borough. I'm sure the new buses will be a very welcome and comfortable addition."

Mark Ellis, commercial manager for Arriva North East, said: "These buses are part of our replacement programme which shows Arriva is committed to delivering quality bus services in the borough."
