TWO men have been arrested following a road smash in the Yorkshire Dales in which a Darlington man died.
Police said yesterday that two men from Darlington, aged 34 and 55, were arrested following the collision.
Both have since been released on bail.
The collision happened shortly after 6pm on the A684 between Swinithwaite and Aysgarth. It involved a red Kawasaki ZR 750 motorcycle, which was travelling as part of a group, and a green Isuzu Rodeo 4x4 vehicle.
The group of motorcycles, which also included a grey Yamaha YZF R6, a red Yamaha YZF R6 and a Honda, was travelling towards Aysgarth and the Isuzu was heading in the opposite direction.
Following the collision, the rider of the Kawasaki, a 34- year-old man, was taken to the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton, where he was pronounced dead.
He was the 16th biker to die on North Yorkshire’s roads this year.
Traffic Constable Graham Waller said: “I am particularly interested in speaking with the driver of a camper-type van that was in the area at the time of the collision.
“They may be unaware that a collision has taken place and may have vital information that could help the investigation.”
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0845-60-60-247.
