AN appeal has been made against the refusal of a planning application to build eight semi-detached homes.
Plans for the development were refused last August by Darlington Borough Council because the site was outside the town's development limits.
The refusal added that no exceptional circumstances had been demonstrated to allow the development to go ahead.
Malcolm Brunton submitted the plans last year to build the homes on the site of an existing house on the northbound side of the A167 outside Harrowgate Hill.
He said in the application that the proposals were to add affordable homes to an area which was short of houses of that kind.
The eight two-storey houses would be built in a court complex set back from the main road. They would have three bedrooms and be built in traditional red brick with slate roofs.
The application included demolition of an existing two-storey house.
The decision will be made by the independent planning inspector. Anyone who wants to make comments on the appeal should write to the inspector at Room 3/05 Kite Wing, Temple Quay House, 2 The Square, Temple Quay, Bristol BS1 6PN quoting reference APP/N1350/A/10/2122405/N.
