Darlington residents will be asked for their opinion about plans to amend conservation areas in the town centre.
A council-run talking together meeting takes place on Monday to discuss changing the boundary of the town centre conservation area, which could bring in four new areas.
Darlington Borough Council said for residents and businesses it would introduce a control over the demolition of un-listed buildings and guide decisions made on planning applications in the area.
Local authorities designate conservation areas for their character, appearance and quality of historic buildings. They help provide protect to valuable and historic areas.
Darlington's town centre conservation area was first designated in 1976 but this is the first appraisal to be drafted.
The talking together meeting takes place in Central Hall, Dolphin Centre, Darlington, from 6pm to 7.30pm.
Those who cannot attend the meeting can also email their comments to planning.projects@darlington.gov.uk or contact 01325-388604.
A draft appraisal of the conservation area is also available on the council's website. Hard copies are available in the Crown Street Library.
