DARLINGTON must build on their win at Brackley by beating Blyth Spartans this evening and registering their first home victory of the season, admits manager Tommy Wright.

Saturday’s impressive 4-2 win against a fellow promotion hopeful, with Reece Styche scoring a hat-trick, was Quakers’ first three-point haul of the campaign.

It came after losing at home on the first day of the season to Curzon Ashton, and now Wright’s sights are on overcoming Alun Armstrong’s Spartans, who are fresh from thrashing Chester 8-1.

“We need to build on Saturday,” said Wright. “It’s always nice to win like that, and it was probably a result that many didn’t expect us to get, but I’ve said to the lads that if we’re going to have aspirations of doing something this year then you’ve got to win at places like Brackley.

“The lads went out there and we rocked them.

“Our last outing at home wasn’t good enough and you’re never going to achieve anything if you don’t sort out your home form.

“Our home form wasn’t great at the end of last season either, so it’s up to us now because there’s no point winning at places like Brackley if you don’t put results together at home.

“We need a win for our fans at home.

“Blyth will attack us there’s no doubt about that, that is their way of playing so we’ve got to be ready for that and give them a bit back.”

Wright has a selection dilemma and must ponder whether to change a winning team as left-back Ben O’Hanlon is available again after serving a one-match ban on Saturday.

Terry Galbraith covered for him with Jonny Burn coming in for his debut in the centre of defence.

Wright added: “I’ve had dilemmas throughout, there’s been decisions to make. Dave Syers, for example, was a massive player for us last year, but he hasn’t started any of the first three games.

“Jordan Nicholson started the first game and has then been sub, and there’s Harvey Saunders, who was outstanding in pre-season but hasn’t started yet.

“Ben has been a regular since he came to us, that has been his shirt, but to bring him back on Wednesday would mean having to leave someone out.

“The decision hasn’t been made yet, but the lads did earn a chance to have the opportunity again.”
