A SERIES of walks on the wild side will begin this month, inviting nature lovers to learn more about the world around them.

Five bat walks will be held across Darlington in August and throughout September.

The first event will be the Denes bat walk, on Friday, August 31. Those interested can meet in the Tennis Dene play area, off Deneside Road, at 7.50pm.

The next walk will be in Darlington's South Park on Thursday, September 6. Walkers should meet at the Clock Tower at 7.40pm.

A third walk is scheduled for 7.25pm on Wednesday, September 12, in the Maidendale Nature Reserve.

It will begin in the car park at the end of Salters Lane, beyond Cummins.

The North Park bat walk starts at the Cumberland Street entrance at 7.05pm on Tuesday, September 18.

The final event is at Broken Scar, meeting in the car park at 6.50pm, on Thursday, September 27.

Walkers should bring warm clothes and a torch to give them the best chance of seeing the small creatures.
